The History

For over a century, The Melody Lodge has been a home away from home. It began in 1912 when gifted musician Allison Van Hoose purchased six acres atop Page Hill and built a music school for girls. For five years, music filled the air until it was sold as a summer home in 1917. By 1937, Hamilton and Francis Dunham Chequer purchased the property and gave it new life, opening it as The Melody Lodge for dining and lodging, a name that echoed its musical past.

Sue and George Swift took over after the Chequers and built up and cemented its reputation as a beloved lodge, restaurant, and cherished gathering place for travelers and locals alike. The Melody Lodge changed hands a few more times until 2022, when current management took over.

Today and Tomorrow

We focused our renovation plans on honoring the history of The Melody Lodge and its special place in our community, striking the right balance of old charm and modern amenities. Above all, we want to ensure The Melody Lodge remains a cherished gathering place for our community while offering modernized hospitality in the Southern Adirondacks.

We worked to bring new life into The Melody Lodge to create a space to form new memories for years to come. Our updated lodge and soon-to-open tavern are just the beginning. Imagine expanded dining, enhanced outdoor spaces, and new ways to enjoy the beauty of the Southern Adirondacks.
